Jurisdictional Affairs

The Deputy Superintendence for Jurisdictional Affairs is responsible for handling legal proceedings established by citizens (related to disputes between two parties) on the following issues: i) the protection of consumers, ii) unfair competition practices and iii) infringement of industrial property rights.

In those cases, The SIC acts as a judge of Colombia and the decisions taken in this context can only be revised by the Superior Court in Bogotá. The Superintendent of Industry and Commerce doesn´t participate in any part of the cases or its ruling.

Deputy Superintendent for Jurisdiccional Affairs

María Fernanda Navas Herrera

A lawyer from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, she holds a specialist and master's degree in Insurance Law from the same university. She holds a Diploma of Advanced Studies in Civil Law from the University of Salamanca, Spain, and is a PhD candidate in private law from the same university (Colfuturo scholarship holder). She also studied English legal methods at the University of Cambridge (UK).

She began her career at the insurance law firm "Salazar, Pardo & Jaramillo" and then worked for Aon Colombia Insurance Brokers, where she participated in the preparation and implementation of the Master Policy for Large Beneficiaries (compliance insurance) in a pilot project with the Banco de la República. For two years, she was part of the State Judicial Branch, where she worked as an assistant in the Civil Division of the Supreme Court of Justice. As an independent professional, she has advised individuals and legal entities in the areas of private law, especially contract law, insurance, civil liability, and family law. She has participated in several arbitration tribunals, both as a convening attorney, as a summoning attorney, and as a guarantor. She also served as a substitute defense attorney for the insured of the QBE Insurance Company.

Arbitrator for the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce (civil law, construction, and insurance). Legal manager of the SmartFilms Festival (creative economy). Member of the board of directors of the insurance company Coface for Trade. She also practices independently as a consultant in contract law, insurance law, commercial law, intellectual property, and family law. She also works in partnership with national and international firms.
