Colombia and OECD

Since 2011, the Government of Colombia has expressed its interest in becoming member of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The OECD is an international organism that has as primary goal the promotion of “Better Policies for Better Lives”. Founded in 1961 and has as mission to promote policies that improve the economic and social well-being of people all around the world.it sets international standards with in a wide range of public policy issues.The SIC has had an active participation in two of the OECD committees; the Competition Committee and the Consumer Protection Committee.

The participation of the Deputy Superintendence for Competition Protection Committee of the OECD has been one of the most efficient. The SIC participation began in 2013 with an in-depth review of the Colombian competition regime, through which the SIC submitted for review, by the members of the organization, the Colombian competition regime.

Subsequently, in March 2014, the SIC presented to the Competition Committee the Initial Memorandum, in which it reflected Colombia’s position compared to the Recommendations of the OECD Council and confirmed its interest in continuing the Access Process and promised to accept the Recommendations.

After an extensive process of negotiation and consultation, in June 2015, Colombia had the Committee’s approval.

Related to the participation in the Consumer Protection Committee – CCP, the SIC has been leading different activities and projects of the Working Party on Consumer Product Safety and the CCP since 2013 and had the final approval to join the Committee in 2015.

In 2020, Colombia completed its accession process to the OECD and became the 37th member country of this prestigious organization.
