Colombia’s Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC), as the National Data Protection Authority, has instructed WhatsApp LLC to comply with data protection regulation for Habeas Data and data processing for its 39 million Colombian users.
The decision was announced in Resolution 29826 of May 2021, after finding out that WhatsApp LLC’s existing Information Handling Policy failed to comply with 57.89% of Colombian data protection regulations.
In its role as the national authority for Technical Regulations and Legal Metrology, the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC) carried out inspection visits to the scales located at the El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá. The Superintendence of Transportation supported the work as the inspection and surveillance authority of infrastructure and transportation in Colombia.
The Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC), in its role as National Authority for Data Protection, confirmed a fine of $702 million pesos against the Central of Financial Information (CIFIN), for having included information that was not of a financial nature in the record of 288.753 Colombians users.
