SIC Honors Outstanding Colombian Inventors in Collaboration with WIPO and IFIA
The Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC) presented the 14th National Inventor Award, recognizing the creativity and technological contributions of six distinguished Colombian inventors. The ceremony, held at the Bogotá Planetarium, featured representatives from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations (IFIA).
This year’s edition received 121 applications from 21 departments, with 18 finalists competing in 6 categories. The event was led by Superintendent Cielo Rusinque, who highlighted that invention is a collective opportunity that drives social and economic transformation.
The ceremony was attended by WIPO’s Deputy Director General, Marco Alemán; IFIA President, Alireza Rastegar; and SIC's Deputy Superintendent for Industrial Property, Pilar Goyeneche, who collectively commended Colombian innovators for their creativity and impact.
Two new categories were introduced this year: Women Inventors and Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs), acknowledging female innovation and the critical role of small businesses in technological progress.
Winning projects included a water purification system, an organic battery made from agricultural waste, a biolaminate from plant residues, and a robotic rehabilitation hand. The winners received medals, legal support for patent applications, coverage of industrial property fees, and opportunities to showcase their inventions internationally in 2026.
Through this award, SIC reaffirms its commitment to promoting innovation, protecting inventive talent, and fostering Colombia’s technological competitiveness with the support of WIPO and IFIA.
