SIC grants protection to treatments for parasitic diseases' in Colombia

Through Resolution No. 13586 of April 7, 2020, the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC) granted the University of Córdoba a patent for a product related to the treatment of parasitic diseases transmitted by insects, such as: Chagas' disease, leishmaniasis, and malaria. 

New sterquinolines compounds were combined, through a modified Perkin reaction, with natural excipients such as arnica, honey, elastin, collagen, urea, allantoin, or a mixtures of some of these to obtain topical formulations to treat cutaneous leishmaniasis.

Other contributions

Through Resolution No. 12669 of April 2, 2020, the SIC also granted the University of Antioquia and Vectors and Health protection for the patent to trap and capture insects that transmit infectious microorganisms, such as Leishmania and Plasmodium.

This trap, designed to monitor, prevent, and control insects that transmit malaria and leishmaniasis, has a simple and resistant design that can be used in more demanding environments, isolated areas or places with scarce resources. It includes a piece that can be attached and detached from the main cylinder, which contains the engine's power batteries and the LED lights which make it possible to replace the unit's batteries, without having to dismantle the entire device.
