SIC Colombia Contributed to EPO's Zero Hunger Project with Analysis on Agro-industrial Digitalization
SIC contributed to the European Patent Office's (EPO) "Zero Hunger" project through its Deputy for Industrial Property. The contribution detailed how digital technologies (such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), drones, and robotics) are transforming Colombia's agricultural sector to address challenges like climate change and food security.
The submission featured success stories in strategic crops, including the use of drones in southeastern coffee plantations, IoT sensors that reduce water consumption by up to 50% in Valle del Cauca sugarcane fields, and AI-powered mobile applications for fruit and vegetable cultivation. It also highlighted fumigation drones in Antioquia's flower crops and intelligent systems for Hass avocado exports.
Furthermore, SIC highlighted two of its technology bulletins: "Coffee: A Sector of Opportunity for Industry 4.0 Technologies" and "Artificial Intelligence and Robotics: The Future of Agriculture in Colombia." These documents analyze trends, opportunities, and challenges in adopting these technologies.
This participation reinforces Colombia's commitment to technological innovation in agriculture and its alignment with the global food security objectives promoted by EPO's Zero Hunger project.
