Colombia receives protection of its country trademark in Ecuador

After an application filed by the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce, in its role as National Authority for Industrial Property, the National Service of Intellectual Rights of Ecuador (SENADI) granted the protection of the following Colombian Trademarks: “COLOMBIA CO”, “COLOMBIA EL PÁIS MÁS ACOGEDOR DEL MUNDO”, “LA RESPUESTA ES COLOMBIA” y “COLOMBIA ES PASIÓN”.

Country Trademarks are distinctive signs that do not identify a specific product or service, but rather identify a country. This is a tool used by some governments, such as the Colombian government, with the aim of positioning and improving the country's image at international level, especially in commercial, tourism, gastronomic and cultural contexts.

SENADI granted the protection of these trademarks following the indications of Decision 876 of the Andean Community of Nations (CAN), a regional initiative that seeks to encourage the protection and promotion of country brands across the Andean community.
