The Sic takes legal actions to guarantee the protection of consumers who attend public events
The Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC), as National Authority for Consumer Protection, issued the External Circular 04 of 2022, addressed to natural or legal persons involved into the organization or promotion of artistic public performances, regarding the applicable regulations to the claims presented by consumers, in cases of cancellation or modification of these events.
The Circular regulates the following:
- Guarantee claims received by natural or legal persons in case of cancellation or modification of artistic public performances, related to the enforcement of measures adopted to contain the spread of COVID-19.
- Guarantee claims received by natural or legal persons in case of cancellation or modification of artistic public performances, for any reason different than that the stated in the previous paragraph.
- The Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC) has the power to order any type of measure in order to prevent damage or harm of consumers in cases of suspension, cancellation or rescheduling of artistic public performances events.
- In case of suspension, cancellation or rescheduling of artistic public performances events, consumers who seek the protection of their particular interest may file a demand in the Deputy Superintendence for Jurisdictional Affairs of the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce.
- Natural or legal persons dedicated to the organization or promotion of public events must provide timely, clear, truthful, sufficient, supportable and detailed information to consumers about the suspension, cancellation or rescheduling of public shows.
