The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC) held a webinar on mediation for dispute resolution regarding industrial property issues
On January 28, 2021, a webinar on mediation for dispute resolution regarding industrial property issues was held between the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC). This is a joint activity that took place after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between both authorities in June, 2020. Under the MOU, the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center seeks to promote mediation services to resolve industrial property (IP) disputes in Colombia.
During the seminar, the Deputy Superintendent for Jurisdictional Affairs of the SIC, Carolina Estrella, shared an overview of the industrial property disputes in Colombia from the perspective of the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce. It should be remembered that the SIC provides justice administration services for those who sue infractions of industrial property rights
Afterward, the Head of the Business Development Unit of the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center, addressed the issue of mediation carried out by WIPO for industrial property disputes, including the stages in a WIPO mediation process, the process of appointment of the mediator and its functions, among other relevant issues.
The WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center provides international services for the resolution of disputes related to IP, in particular, through the administration of cases under its Mediation Rules, the Arbitration Rules, the Expedited Arbitration Rules and the Decision Rules of Experts.
