SIC sanctions Directv Colombia Ltda. for providing misleading information

The Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC) in its role of National Authority for Consumer Protection, lead by the Directorate of Investigations for the Protection of Communications Services Users, through Resolution No. 37740 of July 13, 2020 and after carrying out the corresponding administrative sanctioning procedure established by Law, sanction the company DIRECTV COLOMBIA LTDA., with a fine of $ 728,576,490 COP (aprox. USD$189.179)

 

The Directorate charged DIRECTV for delivering misleading information in relation to the existence of an alliance with EMPRESA DE TELECOMUNICACIONES DE BOGOTA S.A.E.S.P. to carry out the provision of internet and telephony services. This action made by DIRECTV COLOMBIA LTD is considered misleading advertising and it could have misled or deceived consumers. This accusation was successful proven, which revealed a violation of the rights of users of communications services.

 

Likewise, the Directorate found that DIRECTV COLOMBIA failed its obligation to inform in a clear and timely manner about the terms, conditions and restrictions of the promotions and offers related to the alleged alliance.

 

Finally, the Directorate demonstrated that DIRECTV COLOMBIA did not comply with the promotions and offers by virtue of which it offered users the installation of telephone and internet services, as well as free months of contracted services and discounts of 50% of monthly fixed charges.
