The SIC orders Avantel S.A.S to inform consumers about the services offered
The Superintendence of Industry and Commerce, in its role as National Authority for Consumer Protection, due to the enforcement actions carried out on AVANTEL S.A.S, the SIC identified some irregularities in the information provided to the consumers in relation to the services offered.
As evidenced and, after noting an impact on the general interest of consumers, the SIC ordered AVANTEL to inform its users through its website, social networks, and its customer service offices, the following information:
- The existence of some Internet pages in which an identity theft of its brand name and its service channels has allegedly been presented.
- In the same announcement, the company must clarify that AVANTEL is a different company from PARTNERS TELECOM COLOMBIA S.A.S. and its brand name WOM.
- Confirm which customer service channels are available to advertise their services and respond to requests, complaints and claims from their users.
- Include on its website a standing and prominent banner on their home page in which AVANTEL clearly and precisely provide the information referred to in the aforementioned information’s details.
This request is immediately enforceable, and no appeal could be made against it. Failure to comply will result with sanctions of up to one thousand (1,000) current legal monthly minimum wages.
