The SIC granted a patent for a heart rate monitor

The SIC granted an invention patent to the Universidad Autónoma del Caribe for an intelligent heart rate monitor for active athletes that will allow coaches "to make a more objective evaluation of the physical performance of the competitors." The novelty in this device consists in its ability to send information over long distances and that data from several users can be monitored simultaneously by a single person.

The monitor comprises a real-time heart rate (HR) acquisition and transmission unit, made up of a HR sensor, a microcontroller to calculate HR, and a long-range wireless communication module (between 10 km and 20 km ) with a sensitivity of -146 dBm.
